About this data
Water temperatures are collected by trained WLCF volunteer
monitors following the BC Lake Stewardship Program (BCLSP) protocol.
Readings are taken at each lake’s designated monitoring site,
at approximately 1 metre depth.
WLCF volunteers also record dissolved oxygen and water clarity alongside
temperature, per BC Lake Stewardship Society protocol — together these
three indicators show how a lake is doing over time: oxygen levels support
(or stress) fish and aquatic life, and clarity signals changes in algae or
sediment that can flag early nutrient pollution. See the

monitoring rationale. Note: readings above 18°C mean salmon avoid this upper
layer specifically — they still find the cooler mid and bottom waters of
our lakes comfortable.
Year-over-year comparisons use the nearest prior-year reading within
±7 days of the current reading date. If no reading falls
within that window, the nearest reading in the same calendar month
is used.
Volunteers aim to sample each lake approximately every two weeks during
the open-water season — Lost Lake has historically been the only lake
to achieve weekly sampling. This page refreshes with the latest available
data every Monday morning.
